| Healing with Aloha By Elizabeth Lochner | Alo = to connect, share, in the presence; Ha = Breath of life, of God. Man has known the healing power of touch and putting oneself into spiritual alignment
for thousands of years. Indigenous healers on all continents understood the inter-relatedness of mind, body and spirit. These
ancient healers not only addressed the physical body, but the spiritual body of both themselves and their clients. Many traditional
healing arts such as lomi lomi in Hawaii and Ayurveda in India were scorned as heathen and primitive and their traditional
practices were banned in the 18th and 19th centuries, as members of political systems felt threatened by the spiritual component.
Fortunately, the wisdom of the ancient healers was preserved by those with belief and knowledge who continued their practice
underground. Traditional lomi lomi is practiced with "aloha."
In healing with aloha, one must recognize the Divine nature in every living thing, and have great reverence that when we connect
with another we are then connecting with the Divine. Lomi lomi practitioners must rid themselves of all negative thoughts
so as not to pass any negative energy on to their client and in order to be in the presence of the wisdom of the ages and
the higher power of Divine Source. Once a true intent of aloha
is awakened, then the magical healing dance of lomi lomi can begin. Sweeping strokes, gentle stretches and intuitively guided
points of pressure allow the body to release old ideas and experiences stored in the cells as the life force moves from head
to toe, revitalizing and restoring balance. In a lomi lomi massage,
quite frequently different parts of the body are massaged at the same time so that the recipient, whose mind cannot easily
focus on two things at the same time, will switch off their mind and relax. With lomi lomi, one is transported through a deep
relaxation, to a place of reflection where it is possible to let go and simply be.
